Who we are
Rise to Reading is a reading-resource website run by Diane Winsor for parents, caregivers, and teachers. This policy explains how information is handled when you browse our resources, contact us, or make a contribution. For privacy questions, use our Contact page and include “Privacy request” in the subject.
Information you choose to send
Our contact forms ask for your name, email address, and the details of your request. Book suggestions can also include a book title, author, and reader’s grade. Feature requests can include book or publisher details and a link. We use this information to respond, consider suggestions, and discuss requested services. Please avoid sending sensitive information or information that identifies a child. Contacting us does not subscribe you to a newsletter.
Browsing, cookies, and analytics
Our hosting and security services can record technical information such as your IP address, browser, requested pages, and the time of a visit. This helps deliver the website, investigate errors, and protect it from misuse. The site is hosted through Bluehost and uses Wordfence for security.
We use Google Analytics through Analytify to understand how visitors find and use our resources. Analytics can process device and browser information, page visits, interactions, approximate location, and cookie identifiers. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Cookies may support security, analytics, and signed-in administration. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some features may work differently. Reading book resources and downloading worksheets do not require a visitor account.
Spam protection and reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA to help distinguish genuine visits and form submissions from automated abuse. It processes technical and interaction information for security, fraud, and abuse prevention and uses a security cookie. Google processes reCAPTCHA data on our behalf under its cloud data-processing terms. See Google’s reCAPTCHA data-processing information.
The site also uses Akismet for spam protection. Information submitted through protected forms, together with technical information such as IP address and browser details, may be checked by Akismet. See Automattic’s privacy notice for site visitors.
Contributions and outside services
Contributions are handled through PayPal’s checkout. PayPal handles the payment details you enter there; Rise to Reading does not collect your full card or bank-account details through its contribution page. PayPal may share transaction information with us, such as your name, email address, contribution amount, and payment status, so we can manage contributions. See PayPal’s Privacy Statement.
Links to other websites are governed by those websites’ privacy practices. Services that supply website assets, such as fonts or externally hosted images, may receive technical information when your browser requests those assets.
Who handles information and how long it stays
Information may be handled by the website administrator and providers that operate hosting, email, backups, analytics, spam protection, security, and payments. Providers may process information in countries other than your own. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or needed to investigate abuse.
Messages and related correspondence may remain in email records and routine backups. Technical logs, analytics records, and payment records have different retention periods depending on their purpose, provider settings, and recordkeeping requirements. Contact us if you want to ask about information associated with you.
Your choices and children’s information
You can choose not to submit a form and can manage cookies in your browser. Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information. Use our Contact page to make a request. We may need to verify that a request concerns your information, and some records may need to be retained.
These resources are designed to help adults support children’s reading. An adult should submit contact forms and contributions. Please do not include a child’s full name, email address, school, or other identifying details in a message. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review it and arrange appropriate removal.
Advertising and updates
Advertising helps support free reading resources. Where we display ads, we may use Google AdSense and its advertising partners. These providers may collect technical information, including IP addresses, browser details, and interactions with ads, and use cookies or similar technologies to deliver ads, measure performance, and prevent fraud.
Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to personalize ads using that browsing activity. Learn more about Google’s advertising practices.
You can manage or opt out of Google’s personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. For choices offered by participating third-party advertising companies, visit YourAdChoices. These choices do not remove all advertisements. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.
We may update this page as the website and its services change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
