Lynne Reid Banks was a British author who worked as an actress and journalist before writing books. She is best known for The Indian in the Cupboard, in which a boy discovers that a magic cupboard brings his toy figures to life. Some of the book's language about Native Americans is dated, so it is a good one to discuss with your child.
